Congratulations to Year 13 student, Jude W, who has won the prestigious Rotary UK & Ireland Young Citizen Sporting Hero Award. The Award recognizes young individuals who excel in sport while making a meaningful impact in their communities. Jude is a shining example of this ethos, and his story is one of perseverance, passion, and the power of sport to transform lives.
As a member of the Triathlon Ireland Squad Jude has represented Ireland at multiple European Cups and in 2024 competed in the inaugural Nordic Cup, racing against elite youth athletes from all over the world – he was placed 8th in Estonia and 11th in Denmark, which are outstanding achievements given the quality of the athletes he was competing against.
At age 14 Jude became the youngest Irish swimmer to complete the 7.5km Hellespont swim from Europe to Asia, raising over £10,000 for the Sunshine Foundation, a charity supporting children with special needs in Romania – another remarkable achievement!
The above points just give a small snapshot of Jude’s overall achievements.
We at Limavady Grammar School are very proud of Jude and wish him every success in his future endeavours!
