Wellbeing & Mental Health Support

At LGS, pupil wellbeing is a core priority. It is important that our pupils feel safe, supported, and heard. Our newly appointed Pupil Wellbeing Lead, Mrs E Borthwick, will focus on supporting pupils’ mental health and emotional wellbeing across the school.

Through our inclusive and varied Personal Development (PD) programme, we address many aspects of emotional wellbeing. Pupils are given opportunities to explore and discuss mental health challenges, helping to reduce stigma around anxiety, stress, and related issues.

In partnership with the Western Trust’s Emotional Wellbeing Teams in Schools (EWTS), we offer targeted workshops on:

  • Building Resilience
  • Managing Anxiety
  • Developing Confidence and Self-Belief

LGS is also home to two dedicated Wellbeing Rooms:

  • A quiet space for reflection and calm
  • A larger social space designed to support pupils with wellbeing needs in a safe and relaxed environment

The main Wellbeing Room is undergoing an update during the 2025/26 academic year. Enhancements include:

  • Additional seating
  • New sensory tents
  • Updated sensory materials
  • Mindfulness reading resources
  • A Mood Board and Gratitude Board where pupils can share thoughts and feelings

The main Wellbeing room is supervised at lunchtime by our experienced team of Classroom Assistants (CAs), who are available to offer guidance and support.

Our Year 13 team of Wellbeing Ambassadors are also on hand to offer mentoring and support to their peers, having completed the REACH Champions programme with the EA. The REACH training programme focuses primarily on how to help others with the 5 Key Aspects of Social and Emotional Capability.
