Year 8 Celebrate World Book Day with Reading, Poetry, and Charity Events

In March 2025, Year 8 marked World Book Day with a heartwarming and inspiring celebration. The highlight of the day was a visit from Rebecca Oates of the NI Cancer Fund for Children, who shared the incredible work the charity does to support children and their families affected by cancer. Deeply moved by her talk, Year 8 students embarked on a ReadOn campaign to raise funds for the charity.

Their efforts were nothing short of amazing—while nurturing a love for reading, the students raised an impressive £1,284. A special mention goes to Matthew (8X), who raised £105 on his own. We would also like to express a huge thank you to Rebecca and Cora from the NI Cancer Fund for Children for their inspiring visit and continued support.

Meanwhile, creativity was in full bloom in 8W, where a group of budding poets took part in a series of poetry workshops led by the Community Arts Partnership. The workshops encouraged students to explore their voices through poetry, culminating in original works inspired by the theme “All Write Now.” We eagerly await the publication of their poems and can’t wait to see their talent in print!
