The junior girls’ football team kicked off their season with an exciting challenge—playing a delayed final from June in the North Coast Girls Football League. Despite the unusual start, the girls rose to the occasion with a spirited and epic performance. In a tightly contested match, goals from Eve and Cara kept the game balanced, but in the dying moments, Limavady High School broke through to snatch a late winner. The 3-2 loss was hard to take, but it was a performance filled with heart, laying a strong foundation for what would become an outstanding season.

NI Plate Run: Dominance, Determination, and Drama

The team bounced back in style in the NI Plate, producing a stunning 8-0 victory over St Conor’s. The girls showed fantastic teamwork, stretching the play wide and defending with discipline. Cara was in unstoppable form, scoring an incredible six goals, while Sarah and Lily added one each to round off a superb team performance.

Next came Carrick Grammar, and the girls continued their winning streak with a 2-0 victory. Goals from Eve A and captain Cara secured the win, but it could have been more if not for Carrick’s excellent keeper. A special mention went to Faye, whose relentless running and defensive support played a key role in maintaining the clean sheet.

Their Plate journey then took them to an away quarter-final clash with Integrated College Dungannon. The girls began confidently, racing to a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Cara and Eve A. However, Dungannon rallied in the second half, capitalising on two defensive lapses to level the score. With the match ending 2-2, it went to a penalty shootout. Despite a valiant effort, the nerves got the better of us, and the girls bowed out in heartbreaking fashion. A tough pill to swallow, but a performance they can be proud of.

The team closed the season on a high note with a fantastic 1-0 win over local rivals Coleraine Grammar School. In a tightly contested game played in great spirit, the girls worked tirelessly, pressing high and using the width of the pitch well. Their persistence paid off when Eve M reacted first to a cross, slotting home the match-winner. It was a fitting reward for a determined and well-organised performance.

Although the season ended earlier than hoped in the NI Plate, the junior girls can be incredibly proud of their achievements. From thrilling wins to hard-fought battles, they demonstrated skill, resilience, and team spirit throughout. This season has laid the groundwork for even greater success in the years ahead.
Well done to all the players and coaches—you’ve truly done our school proud!
