LGS lunchtime chess is very popular. Every day there are multiple games being played with all year groups well represented. Sometimes lunchtime is not enough time to finish a game, and the chess board needs to be stored carefully to continue the next day.

This year Boyd O’Neill, one of the House Captains, organised two tournaments in the library at lunchtime. There were over thirty entries with each year group taking up the challenge to win points for their House. The spectators had as much fun watching the tournament as the players who took part. There were some strong competitors and some tense matches. It has been encouraging to see so many Year 8 pupils play lunchtime chess and take part in the tournaments. The future of chess in LGS is looking bright.
