On Friday 30 May we enjoyed the Year 8 Church Visits. We started off visiting St Mary’s Catholic Church, then we moved on to the 2nd Limavady Presbyterian Church and lastly we visited the Limavady Baptist Church.

In St Mary’s Catholic Church I found out that they have a Sanctuary Lamp and when it is lit it symbolises the presence of Jesus. In the Presbyterian Church the seating is arranged so that you can see the pulpit from anywhere in the church. The huge organ is also the centre of interest of the church. We were also allowed to stand in the pulpit which was really cool and meant you could see the whole church from where you were standing! Finally, in the Baptist Church they have the Lord’s table which they serve communion on. In this church they take communion every Sunday which symbolises the body of Christ.

The part of the trip I enjoyed the most was in the Baptist Church when we got to see how people get baptised. We got to see the baptism pool and we learnt why people get baptised. We even got a chance to go into the baptism pool to see how deep it really is!

The church visits were a really good way to help us all see what every church does to worship Jesus. It helped me understand and feel more educated about the different types of services and practices each church participates in! (Lily Higgins 8V)

On Friday 30th of May, my year went on a church visit to St Mary’s Catholic Church, 2nd Limavady Presbyterian Church and Limavady Baptist Church. At each church we learned what their beliefs are and what their central focal points were.

I learned many things at each church; at St Mary’s Catholic we learned that their church was very ornate and fancy with marble floors and a gold cross at the front. Below the gold cross was a small gold chamber called the tabernacle which holds the bread and wine for communion. At 2nd Presbyterian cwe learned that they had a large, white organ at the front and a pulpit with a burning bush on the pulpit fall. Unlike St Mary’s, this church was plain but had stained glass windows. Lastly we went to Limavady Baptist. This final church was more plain than the last with white walls and normal glass windows, not stained. Their focal point was their baptising pool where they would baptise members of the church who followed and believed in God.

My favourite part about this church visit was the way that St Mary’s church was so ornate and that there were marble statues and a grand gold cross in the centre. It was also great to see all of the churches’ different beliefs and ways they praise God. (Theo Gallucci 8V)
