District Schools Track and Field Championships
Wednesday 3rd May 2023 @ Antrim Forum

We had 55 athletes entered between Years 8 – 13 for a variety of track and field disciplines this season. With training underway since January, we were hopeful that several athletes would reap the rewards and bring home some silver wear, and we were not disappointed.

Excellent performances that made the podium and gained qualification for the Ulster Schools Track and Field Championships at Antrim Forum in June were:

Matthew Laird – Minor Boys Shot – Silver

Michael Butcher – Minor Boys Long Jump – Silver

Ben Moore – Intermediate Boys 100m

Ben Moore , Michael Rafferty, James Mackey and Scott Hawthorne – 4 x 100m Relay

Finn O’Neill – Senior Boys Discus and Pole Vault – Gold and qualification respectively

All athletes gave their best and had some superb performances along with several PB’s.

Our Year 13 Finn O’Neill continues to excel in both track and field with his favourite being combined events. Finn went on to represent LGS at the Irish Schools Championships in Tullamore Co. Offlay – June 23. Due to a clash in the timetable Finn decided to pull out of the Senior Boys Discus and focus on his Pole Vault. Finn jumped with superb drive and determination allowing him to finish in 2nd place with a huge PB of 5m. What an amazing result Finn, keep up the hard work!
