Year 10-14

Duke of Edinburgh training is on-going throughout year 11, with after school meetings to plan and train prior to practice hikes. The silver assessment expedition takes place usually at the start of June following school examinations.

The Gold award follows a similar pattern of after school preparation meetings prior to practice hikes. The Gold expedition usually takes place in the Lake District in June of Year 13 following AS level examinations.

Activities

  • Silver Award:
    • 2 Practice Hikes (One in the Sperrins and one in the Antrim Hills).
    • 1 Assessed expedition hike in the The Sperrins.  
    • 6 – 12 months Volunteering and 3 – 12 months Learning a new skill and training in a physical activity
  • Gold Award:
    • 1 Practice Hikes (in the Mournes).
    • 1 Assessed expedition hike in the Lake District.
    • 12 months Volunteering & either 6 or 12 months Learning a new skill and training in a physical activity
    • Gold Award also requires the candidate to complete a 4 days/5 night residential completing a worthwhile activity with people you’ve never met before.

N.B. Sports will not qualify as a Skill.
