Expand and Elaborate

Share

Why will this work?

By expanding on a keyword you will see how it fits into the topic you are studying. You will start to identify relationships between concepts or ideas.

The more you engage with the keyword, the better you will remember it. Elaborating on it involves active learning, which is more effective for retention than passive review.

Practicing elaboration helps improve your ability to explain concepts clearly and concisely.

How?

  • Choose three key words and phrases
  • Add in as much detail as you can. Try to make connections to other topics and ideas you have studied.
  • Once you have completed the template, use your book to add in at least one other key detail to help explain this key word or phrase.
