The Year 8 team began their rugby season with a 2 day summer camp in August, with over 30 boys taking part in the camp. A number of them taking part in rugby for the first time. The team was Captained by Tom Howe, who displayed superb leadership throughout the season. We put out an As, Bs and Cs on Friday afternoons this season. Enjoying victories versus Foyle and Strabane Academy and Coleraine GS.
In November the team played in a blitz v Coleraine GS and Coleraine RFC. Players including Alexander Campbell, Rohan Taylor and Johnny Taggart put in some fantastic performances.
The team played some games against Ballymena Academy and Rainey Endowed in late November, with Raiden Turner, Harry Douglus, Conan O’Kane and Isaac Dale putting in notable performances.
The squads finished the season with a Tournament a CGS.
The B squad captained by James O’Brien were excellent winning 4 out of 5 of their matches. James O’Brien, David Smyth, Colm O’Connor, Riley Magee and Ruari Nicholas scored a number of tries each. Lucas Villa, Milo Clenaghan and Noah Conneally-Crown were excellent in defence. Well done to all involved.
The A squad were in a strong group and put in some super performances. Tom and Rohan lead by example, with Alexander at scrum half. Harry Butcher, David Thomas and Roan McLaughlin carried hard and tackled well. Harry Douglas, Dara Higgins, Caden Moore and James Donaghy provided some super handling and pace in the backs.
Well done to everyone that took part in the Year 8 squad this season. Thanks to their coach Andrew Lemon and Year 13s Jack Butcher, Odhran Clenaghan, Ethan Taylor and Ethan Mullan with their help coaching. The future is bright!
