U15 Football Review 2023 – Irish Society Shield winners!
The U15 football squad had a superb season, beginning their campaign at the start of March and eventually lifting the Irish Society Shield in June 2023. A slow start to the season saw the boys salvage a late draw versus Limavady High School in the group stages. The team understood that significant improvement was needed following this match, and to their credit worked hard to perform to a higher level in the remaining group games. A 3-1 win versus St Mary’s Limavady and a 4-0 victory over Coleraine College were evidence of the hard work paying off as the team progressed as the top team from a difficult group.
The semi-final victory versus Ballymoney High School was a particular highlight on the way to the final, with Michael Rafferty scoring a late winner in the second half of extra time as penalties loomed.
This set up a very difficult task in the final versus an extremely talented Dalriada side at Coleraine Showgrounds. In a highly competitive game played in very hot conditions, it was goals from Cory McArthur, Michael Rafferty and James Mackey that brought the shield back to LGS, following a deserved 3-1 victory. It was a fantastic team performance that reflected the squad’s attitude throughout the season. All members of the squad fully played their part and have been exemplary representatives of the school throughout the season. Congratulations to all for this great achievement!
