The Under 14s had a short season with only three matches but it was great to see a core number of players keen to come out after school and aim to improve their shills and knowledge of the game. Our first round cup match was against Ballymena Academy and helped by 30 runs from Sam S we were hopeful that a score of 95 for 6 in our 20 overs would be sufficient. However, Ballymena batted sensibly and secured a seven wicket win in the penultimate over. Killicomaine JHS were the next visitors in the plate competition and once again Sam S was in the runs with 25 and along with a fine 25 not out from Jack we scored a creditable 116 for 2. Credit to Killicomaine who put up a good fight but fell 15 runs short with Jack taking two of the wickets to fall. This meant that we faced Campbell College B team in the quarter final and the visitors were quick out of the blocks with both opening batsmen scoring freely. Once we got these two wickets the scoring rate dropped but Campbell still managed to score 156 in their 20 overs. In the chase, all of our batsmen got starts but wickets kept falling regularly and we finished 100 for 7. I would encourage all of the players to get involved in their local clubs over the summer in order to continue to improve.
