“Rocking the School: A Festival to Remember”

The school grounds were buzzing with excitement as students, teachers, families and friends filled into the courtyard for the (now annual!) LGS Rock Festival. With the stage set, the lights shining and the sound of electric guitars filling the air, it was a night filled with music, energy, and outstanding performances.

The festival kicked off with our Year 8 Rock Band, made up of a few of the younger students, who set the tone for a night filled with talent. Their passion for music was evident in every note they played, inspiring cheers and applause from the crowd and, as the evening went on, various of our school’s rock bands took to the stage showcasing a variety of songs and genres.

Every single musician who stepped foot on the stage was absolutely incredible and should be commended for their efforts. Their passion for music shone through in every performance, showcasing a level of skill and creativity that was truly impressive. From drum solos that rocked the stage, guitar riffs that electrified the crowd and vocal performances that had the audience howling for more, these students proved that age is no barrier to musical talent. It was great to see just how readily the audience showed their appreciation for the hard work and dedication each act put into their performance and served as a reminder of the bright future ahead for these gifted young musicians, whether they’ll continue to perform at LGS for years to come or will soon be heading off to spread their talents further afield. Special mention must be made of Leo Collins who, after seven years of phenomenal performances here at LGS, will be leaving to bring his musical talents to university. While he leaves some very large shoes to fill, we know our students are more than capable of rising to the challenge!

Yet the school rock festival was not just about the music; it was about bringing people together, showcasing the incredible creativity and talent of our students, and creating a space for those students to express themselves to the fullest. Simply put, it was a night that showcased the power of music to unite, inspire, and uplift. Until next year’s festival, the echoes of these fantastic performances are sure to linger in the halls of LGS, inspiring a new generation of wannabe rock’n’rollers. Rock on!
