Young Enterprise in Limavady Grammar School had a very successful year. With two companies running alongside each other, it proved to be a challenging yet fulfilling year for all the pupils involved. “Blossom” was a company who marketed their products based on their sustainability and zero waste approach. They created giftware using seed paper sourced from a supplier in the UK while “Keep ‘Er Lit” sold coloured, scented candles made from recycled glass jars, with the aim of improving motivation among young people from using essential oils which promoted a calming sense.
In December, both “Blossom” and “Keep ‘Er Lit” travelled to sell their products at St George’s Market. This was an exciting day where pupils got to establish a customer base, use their social media for promotion and meet other competing companies.
We were also delighted to welcome the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens to the school along with the Economic Development Officer, Mrs Pollock. Pupils presented their product ideas and received great advice and feedback from both guests.
February was the Foyleside Trade Fair where both companies received awards from the judges. “Keep ‘Er Lit” won a special recognition award for their innovative product and excellent customer service, while “Blossom” won the awards for best display, customer service and most sustainable product. “Blossom” was also voted by the judges as the “North West Company of the Year”.
From this, they travelled to the awards ceremony in City Hall, Belfast where they won the audience vote for best presentation, along with a Special Recognition Award for their product development, sustainability and the zero waste aspects of their products.
This was a very successful year for both companies and we look forward to new ideas for products to be created in the future.
