The long, nervous wait finally came to an end on Thursday 15th August as Sixth Form pupils at Limavady Grammar received their A and AS Level results.  Principal Nicola Madden was “delighted” with the results which place the school well above the Northern Ireland average.  Over 40% of examinations sat resulted in the top A* or A grades and 72% being awarded A*-B grades, an increase on last year, despite the return to normal grading this year following the Covid pandemic, which has made it more difficult to achieve top grades this year.  The figure of 82% of pupils receiving 3 or more A*-C grades represents the best results in recent years that the school has had under normal grading.  Top students were Michael Devlin and Azura Rice, both of whom achieved three A* and one A grade, whilst Fintan McIvor achieved straight A* grades in all three of his subjects.   Other pupils who achieved A*/A grades in all of their subjects were Charli Burnside, Scott Carlin, Yna Cisnero, Odhran Clenaghan, Matthew Donnell, Ella Feeney, Freddie Gault, Callum Gilpin, Annabelle Hunter,  Brooke McCurry, Aislinn McDermott, Calum McDonnell, Shona McElhinney, Amy McFarland, Aoife McLaughlin, Olivia McLernon, Isla O’Hara, Emma-Kate Risby,  Sara Rosborough, Cyprian Soczynski, Jaya Takkolu and Ryan Wilson.

Year 13 pupils also received results this week, with over 38% of AS Level exams sat awarded the top A grade and over 83% awarded A-C grades, both showing an increase from pre-pandemic results.   Top achievers were Ruby Armstrong, Joshua Hunt, Adam Irons, Rudy Mullan, Blaíthín O’Hara and Boyd O’Neill, who each achieved 4 A grades, whilst the following pupils all achieved 3 A grades – Emma Alcorn, James Bell, Izzy Blair, Dylan Bond, Sophie Butcher, Josh Connolly, Finn Craig, Matthew Mailey, Emma McCurry, Ethan McKinney, Olivia Mornin, Joel Osbourne, Callum Smith, Kacper Szubski and Adam Thompson,

Despite being able to access their results online, many pupils still followed the age-old tradition of coming into school to receive their results envelope and celebrate with their classmates.  Head Boy Odhran Clenaghan admitted to being “ecstatic” on achieving his results (A* in Maths and Physics and A grades in History and Politics).  Odhran is now intending to study Law at Churchill College, Cambridge.  Classmate Zoe Kershaw was equally pleased to receive her results (A in Maths and B grades in Business Studies and Physics).  Zoe now plans to take up an Accountancy apprenticeship, studying one day per week at the University of Ulster and four days with a local accountancy firm.   Zoe admitted to being excited at her future plans.  “I have really enjoyed my time at LGS but am now ready to move on to a new challenge,” she said.

Mrs Madden took the opportunity to congratulate all of her pupils who received their results this week as well as the teachers who prepared the pupils for their exams.   “Limavady Grammar is a school where we strive for excellence in all that we do.   I would like to congratulate you all and wish you well as you leave the school and move on to the next stage in your lives.”
