It was another fantastic season for LGS Hockey Club. In the Derry and Antrim League the 1st XI enjoyed a second consecutive year as joint league winners, scoring a total of 27 goals in the league and conceding only 7, only losing one game during the season.

The 1st XI, captained by Kaia Moore,  found themselves in a tough group in Tier A of the Super League competition. With two wins and two defeats our 1stXI finished 3rd overall in their group, with victories over Ballyclare HS and Friends School Lisburn.  The 1st XI then entered into cup and league competition. A defeat to Ballyclare HS in Round 1 of the Schools’ Cup meant we went to Senior Schools’ Plate competition where we reached the Quarter final with a convincing win over Cookstown High School. A 2-1 defeat to Omagh High School in the Quarter final dashed our hopes of cup success this year. It was in the Derry and Antrim League that our 1st XI really excelled. We have enjoyed a second consecutive year as joint league winners, scoring a total of 27 goals in the league and conceding only 7, only losing one game this season.

The 2nd XI captained by Hannah Anderson enjoyed a very competitive season with wins in the McDowell plate, where they too reached the quarter finals before a 1-0 defeat to Portadown College dashed their hopes of reaching another finals day. The 2nd XI finished 3rd in the Derry and Antrim League with wins over Foyle, Antrim Grammar and Cambridge House.

Across all competitions this season our 1st and 2nd XI have scored a total of 76 goals.

The 3rd XI made up of a majority of young Year 11 and 12 pupils participated in the Coleraine and District High School League. The 3rd XI enjoyed wins over Ballycastle High School and Coleraine Grammar. We look forward to watching these girls develop within the seniors.

Representation

We must of course mention individual players who have represented their club, province and country in hockey. Firstly,  Kaia Moore, our Year 14  pupil has had an excellent season, representing Ballymoney HC in the premier league and EYHL. She represented Ulster U18 who won the interprovincial tournament. Kenya McCartney also played for her local club in the premier league and was a member of the U18 Ulster squad.
