Staff and pupils in Limavady Grammar School are celebrating this week after being named ‘Overall Winner for Best School in Northern Ireland’ at the Families First Education Awards held on Saturday night in the Titanic Centre, Belfast.
At the gala event, the school came first in the ‘Best School in Co Derry/Londonderry’ category, before progressing to the NI final where they emerged as overall winners in Northern Ireland’. The judges commented on the “emphasis within the school placed on pastoral care; the vast range of opportunities; and the high quality of teaching and learning that leads to impressive pupil achievement”. They also highlighted “the inclusive and naturally integrated nature of the school” as one of its key strengths.
We were delighted that the judges were also keen to recognise that, “Limavady Grammar School is ably supported by its dedicated Board of Governors and parents; a school where everyone is nurtured and respected for who they really are and supported in what they want to become”. The wide variety of extra-curricular activities led by dedicated staff, parents, and friends of the school was acknowledged. This together with the opportunities to prepare students for third level education and the world of work made for a winning combination.
The school’s Principal Mrs Nicola Madden said, “We feel privileged and proud to accept this award, as it highlights the hard work and dedication of everyone connected to our wonderful school – a real recognition of our amazing pupils, inspirational staff and positive ethos.”
